Islet cell antoantibodies are immunoglobulins with a specific affinity for the beta cells of the Islet of Langerhans.

ICA is positive in 80% of newly diagnosed patients with IDDM. A positive ICA test in a relative of a patient IDDM is a risk factor for developing IDDM.
