Duodenal ulcer - a break in the mucosal lining of the duodenum - is a form of peptic ulcer more prevalent in men than women with the greatest incidence in the 20 to 60 year age group.

Duodenal ulcers are about four times as common as gastric ulcers. There is a strong association between duodenal ulceration and Helicobacter pylori with over 95% of patients with a duodenal ulcer infected with Helicobacter pylori.
