Mesenteric ischaemia

Ischaemic bowel disease may be acute or chronic. Most cases result from arterial occlusion, usually of the superior mesenteric artery.

The small bowel is affected uncommonly. Ischaemic injury to the large bowel may be referred to as ischaemic colitis.
