Complications

Authoring team

The key concern with endometrial laser ablation is that of fluid overload syndrome. The laser, by means of its action on blood vessels, permits loss of normal saline into the uterine and venous circulatory system. Pulmonary oedema or hyponatraemia can result. This is prevented by using saline pumps which maintain a constant pressure (80-90 mmHg), the use of mild diuretics, and careful postoperative observation.

Other rare complications include haemorrhage and perforation.
