Bacterial classification

Authoring team

Bacteria fall into the kingdom procaryotae, in which there are two divisions, the cyanobacteria and the bacteria.

The division Bacteria is classified into a series of parts. These classify bacteria on the basis of there microscopic appearence, including gram positive and negative, depending upon their staining characteristics, and then into cocci or bacilli dependent upon their morphological characteristics.

The classification adhered to here is not as exhaustive as may be found in some texts; there may be further divisions made in some parts.
