70 to 90% of mothers who are HBeAG positive but HBeAb negative will transmit HBV to their offspring. This, however, may be prevented by giving at risk babies both anti-HBV immune globulin and active HBV vaccine. Babies of mothers who are HBeAb positive need only receive the active HBV vaccine.
