This condition is seen mainly during phases of rapid growth or increased physical activity. This condition is characterised by an apparently spontaneous necrosis of the ossific nucleus in a long-bone epiphysis or one of the cuboidal bones of the wrist.

The patient usually complains of pain and limitation of joint movement. There is localized tenderness. There is increased density apparent on x-ray.

This condition is treated conservatively with analgesia and splintage until the symptoms settle down.
