The primary sites of intracranial metastases are:

Metastatic sources to the brain:

  • lung - 33% of all intracranial tumours; 25% of lung tumours metastasise to brain
  • breast - 20% of all intracranial tumours; frequency of metastasis from primary site as for lung
  • malignant melanoma
  • stomach
  • kidney, testes
  • lymphomas

Metastatic sources to the skull and dura:

  • breast
  • prostate
  • kidney
