Squamous cell carcinoma is one of the less common forms of malignancy in the salivary glands, accounting for 1% of salivary carcinomas. It must be differentiated from mucoepidermoid carcinoma and metastatic squamous carcinoma in a parotid lymph node. Patients are usually elderly males.
It is a high grade tumour requiring radical excision and radiotherapy. There is a 30% ten year survival rate.
