    • ocular trauma (commonest)
    • contact lens use
      • mostly gram negative organisms
      • patients affected by contact lens-related infectious keratitis are usually between 25 and 40 years old, although it may occur at any age in a contact lens user
    • ocular surface disease
    • herpetic eye disease
    • systemic associations
