Necrotising enterocolitis

Necrotising enterocolitis is a life threatening illness occurring in the first few weeks of life, most commonly in small preterm infants. The overall incidence is 3 per 1000 live births, but it can occur in as many as 10% of infants weighing less than 1.5 kg at birth.

Breast fed babies are at less risk of development of this condition.
