There are few symptoms and signs of acute interstitial nephritis.
Heavy proteinuria and oliguria are uncommon.
There may be a rasied white cell count occasionally with an eosinophilia.
There may be neutrophils or eosinophils in the urine. Red cells and casts are not uncommon.
Ultrasound scans of the kidneys show them to be either large or normal size.
Renal biopsy shows interstitial oedema with a heavy inflammatory infiltrate amongst which neutrophils, mononuclear cells or eosinophils may predominate.
