Classically, treatment is surgical, orchidopexy being performed ideally at around the age of one, and hopefully before the third year.

If undescended testes are noted at the baby check, the mother should be informed. She should then point out this finding at later checks, and seek advice regarding surgery at around the first birthday.

Hormonal treatment with gonadotrophins, may be indicated if:

  • there is bilateral incomplete descent associated with hypogenitalism and obesity
  • there is uncertainty as to whether the testis is retractile or truly incompletely descended

It is given at about 8 years of age as a once only course.
